About Me
Jemima (or Jem) Alabi is a recent Brown University, a Bronx native and proud big sister. She loves collecting unique film cameras, reading and writing short stories, and of course, general trivia games.
Formerly an intern at Shop TODAY focused on partnerships, Jem has experience with e-commerce and its relevant software including SemRush, Citrus, Nebula, AirTable, Microsoft Office, and Slack. She is well-versed in copywriting and SEO. Jem was the inaugural Editor of Stories for Brown University's Black Star Journal and previously focused on marketing and advertising as an intern with Apollo Global Management. She is very active within Brown’s performance and media scene as a sound engineer, writer, and photographer.
Jem is an honors student studying Literary Arts with a career focus in media and culture and a concentration in music. She studied briefly at The Paul Bocuse Culinary Institute in Lyon which instilled a love for food within her. She spent a semester abroad in Paris at the University of Saint-Denis where she studied French and Francophone comparative literature, philosophy and journalism. She speaks French proficiently. Jem began shooting film in high school and loves to share her work on her photography page. Jem is experienced with pop culture, music, social commentary, food and commerce writing. She is passionate about creating a positive social impact with her writing and research and hopes to work in broadcasting and media after graduation.
Jem was the 2023 recipient of the SPRINT award by Brown University for undergraduate research. Jem has won two awards issued by the New York Alliance Film Festival for her documentary and experimental filmmaking. Jem Is a proud TEAK fellow.
